Dr. Caroline Logan |
|
Dr. Caroline Logan is a Consultant Forensic Clinical Psychologist in the NHS and an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Manchester. Presently, she is based in a secure forensic psychiatric service and she consults widely across mental health and criminal justice agencies on issues to do with clinical risk assessment and management. She is a co-author of the recent Department of Health Best Practice in Managing Risk guidance and of the British Psychological Society position paper Understanding Personality Disorder. She maintains her long-standing research and clinical interests in personality disorder more generally and in gender issues in offending more specifically.
Dr Logan is both a clinical and a forensic psychologist and she has a D.Phil in experimental psychology. Dr Logan is a former President of the International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services. |

Dr. Sandy Simpson |
|
Dr. Sandy Simpson is currently Associate Professor and Head, Law and Mental Health Program in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto and Clinical Director and Person- in-Charge, Law and Mental Health Program, at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
Dr. Simpson, prior to coming to CAMH served as the Clinical Director and Director of Area Mental Health Services of the Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service and in Auckland, New Zealand. He was Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
Dr. Simpson holds an international reputation for his progressive approach to forensic mental health, and the published outcomes from the Auckland service are among the best in the field. Among his key accomplishments is his leadership in developing the community and inpatient forensic models into a comprehensive model of service, using both recovery-based and culture-based forensic mental health services.
He has played a leading role in developing culture-specific inpatient treatment services for Maori, and in developing an intellectual disability offender service. He has extensive experience providing advice to government agencies on policy and has worked closely with the judiciary in training for judges, including to the New Zealand Supreme Court and Court of Appeal Judges.
Dr. Simpson has a broad teaching experience including post-graduate university teaching in Forensic Psychiatry and specialist training for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. His publications cover topics ranging from the clinical assessment, prevention and management of violence risk in forensic populations, to the future shape of prison mental health services. Dr. Simpson’s area of research has focused on the epidemiology of mental disorder in New Zealand prisons with the development of screening methods and the review of assessment of violence guidelines and development of a staff training toolkit. |

Dr. Philip Klassen |
|
Dr. Philip Klassen is the Deputy Clinical Director and Associate Head (Education) for the Law and Mental Health Program, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. He is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of both Psychiatry and Medicine, at the University of Toronto. His areas of particular interest include violence risk assessment, clinical sexology, assessment of post-traumatic symptomatology, and assessment of professional misconduct. |

Dr. Elissa Ball |
|
Maria Reitmeier M.A.(SWP) R.S.W. has been employed in a professional Social Work Capacity with the St. Josephs Forensic Service since 1997. Her previous experience in psychiatry includes providing Social Work services to clients in tertiary, acute and emergency settings. Presently Ms. Reitmeier is situated on the minimum in-patient forensic unit with consultative coverage to the Forensic Outpatient Team TORT.
Ms. Reitmeier's clinical background includes training in Family Therapy, Relationship Counseling and Psychosocial Rehabilitation as well as CBT techniques. She has maintained a private counseling office in the community for Marital, Relationship and Mental Health counseling. She is a counselor for the Ontario Medical Association. She has past experience as a College Lecturer, Field Placement Coordinator and Manager. |

Dr. Paul Fedoroff |
|
Dr. Paul Fedoroff is Director of the Sexual Behaviors Clinic of the Integrated Forensic Program of the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Care Group (ROMHCG). He is Vice-Chair of the ROMHCG Research Ethics Board. He is also Associate Professor of Psychiatry in the School of Medicine at the University of Ottawa and Cross-appointed in the University of Ottawa departments of Post-graduate studies and Criminology. In addition he has recently been re-appointed Research Unit Director for Forensic Research within the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research. He received his medical degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1983. Following an internship he worked as a family doctor in rural Saskatchewan. He completed his residency in Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University in 1988 and a research fellowship in Neuropsychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1990. He finished a Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at The Clarke Institute (now CAMH) in 1991 and then became Director of the Clarke Institute Sexual Behaviors Clinic. He joined the Forensic Program at the Royal Ottawa Hospital in 2001. His clinical and research interests are devoted to elucidation of the neurophysiologic and psychological causes of psychiatric problems. He is an international expert in the area of problematic sexual behaviors, especially those with neurologic disease or intellectual disability. He has published over 100 papers, chapters and abstracts. He has made over 200 presentations at scientific meetings. He has been widely cited by the media and frequently provides interviews to a wide variety of media including Time magazine, The New York Times, The Discovery Channel, the CBC, The London Times, the Globe and Mail and the Ottawa Citizen. Dr. Fedoroff’s clinical and research teams work together closely with twin aims: to prevent physical and psychological sexual harm and its sequelae; and to investigate and champion ways to ensure the development of healthy sexuality regardless of gender, orientation, age, or disability. |

Dr. Gary Chaimowitz & Dr. Mini Mamak |

Dr. Gary Chaimowitz is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at McMaster University in Hamilton. He has his American Boards in Psychiatry and Neurology with added qualifications in Forensic Psychiatry. He is a Certified Physician Executive through the American College of Physicians and has his MBA from the University of Toronto. Dr. Chaimowitz is the Head of the Forensic Service at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton. He is a member of the Ontario Review Board and the vice-chair of the Consent and Capacity Board. He has been providing psychiatric services to the Cree communities of James Bay for the past fifteen years. He is the chair of the Canadian Psychiatric Association’s Professional Standards and Practice Committee. Dr. Chaimowitz is the president of the Canadian Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. He is active in continuing education, and directs the McMaster Muskoka Seminars, now in its 13th year, as well as the Canadian Psychiatric Association’s International Continuing Professional Development Conference.
Dr. Mini Mamak is the Senior Psychologist on the Forensic Service and Assistant Professor with McMaster University, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neuroscience. She is a member of the board of advisory for the Canadian Critical Incident Association and is a member of the Ontario Review Board. Dr. Mamak is a sought after speaker and lecturer in the areas of risk assessment, aggression, and hostage negotiations. |

Thomas Horn, MSW, MBPsS, RSW (Ont., Engl.) is a social worker with Forensic Services at St. Joe's and has been working in the field of mental health for over 20 years. He is a university instructor and a published author.
Brandon Sunstrum has been a Behavior Therapist with Bartimaeus Inc. for over five years and has ten years experience in social services. He has a diploma in Law and Security, has designed programs for youth in custody, and is in the process of completing a three year diploma in business administration.
Daniel Kirilo, BA, has over eight years experience in social services in a variety of settings. He has been with Bartimaeus Inc. since 2009 and started his own business delivering workshops, groups and lectures to youth involved with gangs, drugs and a number of other issues. |

Dr. Johannes Zeidler education history includes; DABCC, Toxicological Chemistry, 2007PhD, Plant Physiology, University of Karlsruhe (Germany), 2001Diploma (equiv. MSc), Organic Chemistry, University of Karlsruhe (Germany), 1994 As a bioorganic, analytical, synthetic and toxicological chemist Dr. Johannes Zeidler develop new assays for small molecules using liquid or gas chromatography, mass spectrometry and other techniques to support service and collaborative research. Molecules of interest are drugs and metabolites and any other endogenous or exogenous compounds that can be analysed with the following techniques: Liquid chromatography with UV, fluorescence, electrochemical or triple quadrupole mass spectrometry detection; gas chromatography with flame ionisation, thermionic sensitive and mass spectrometric detection. Available assays include e.g. cotinine and 25-hydroxyvitamin D in plasma or serum by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). He is responsible for the special chemistry/toxicology laboratory in the Hamilton Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) he advises on laboratory issues around therapeutic drug monitoring and clinical toxicology. Dr. Zeidler is involved in teaching in the undergraduate and postgraduate programs at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. |

Dr. Elissa M. Ball is currently the Supervising Psychiatrist for ACBU and Advanced Cottage, Psychiatrist for Forensic Community Based Services, Institute for Forensic Psychiatry, Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo. She is also the Senior Instructor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Department of Psychiatry.
Dr. Ball received her B.A. in Biology from Indiana University in 1977 and completed Medical School at University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine, in June 1981. She completed her Community Medicine Internship at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine in June 1982 and was Chief Resident in Emergency Psychiatry, from 1984-85 and completed Psychiatric Residency at University of Colorado School of Medicine, in June 1985. |

Mary-Lou Martin |

Mary-Lou Martin (RN, MScN, MEd) is a clinical nurse specialist at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and is an Associate Clinical Professor at the School of Nursing, McMaster University. She is a practitioner, consultant, educator, researcher and leader in the area of mental health/mental illness. Her clinical experience is in the recovery of clients with mental health issues and/or forensic issues. She has numerous publications. Mary-Lou’s current clinical and research interests include: therapeutic relationships, therapeutic boundaries, knowledge transfer, best practice, trauma informed care, seclusion and restraint, smoking cessation, and risks for harm to self and others . |

W J Wayne Skinner , MSW, RSW, is Deputy Clinical Director in the Addictions Program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Since 1998, Wayne has played a lead role in concurrent disorders at CAMH, where he also co-leads the newly-formed Problem Gambling Institute of Ontario. Prior to CAMH, he worked at the Addiction Research Foundation as a clinician, program director, consultant, research collaborator and educator. He is currently involved in research on supporting families affected by concurrent disorders, communities of practice, and recovery processes through mutual aid fellowship and peer support. He is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and an active MI trainer. He edited “Treating Concurrent Disorders: A Guide for Counsellors” (CAMH, 2005). In 2007, he co-authored “A Family Guide to Concurrent Disorders.” ,He also co-authored “Substance Abuse in Canada” (Oxford University Press, 2010). He is Associate Editor (Canada) for the journal “Mental Health and Substance Use: Dual Diagnosis”. Wayne is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto. |

Susan McGowan, BSW, MSW, RSW has been a Registered Social Worker with St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton since 1995 working in emergency, acute and tertiary care psychiatry until 2005 when she joined the Forensic Service. In 2005, she was intensively trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and she leads the SJHH Forensic DBT Program. She is a BSW and MSW Practicum Instructor. Susan worked for the Teresa Group for many years facilitating groups for children affected by HIV/AIDS. While with the Teresa Group, she co-facilitated No More Secrets, a book written anonymously by the "Group of Five," 5 girls, ages 9 to 12, living with the affects of HIV/AIDS in their families. Susan has published and presented both nationally and internationally in her areas of interest.
Dr. Heather Moulden completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Ottawa in 2008, and her clinical residency at St. Joseph's Healthcare in 2007. She is a Clinical Psychologist with the Forensic Service at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, and is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University. Heather's research and clinical interests include a focus on sexual deviations and offending behaviour. She has worked with criminal offenders, and sexual offenders in particular for over ten years, and has provided training in sexual offender therapy for Correctional Services Canada. Heather has authored peer reviewed publications, invited chapters, and has presented at scholarly conferences in Canada and the United States. Heather's research interests include risk assessment, enhancing treatment efficacy, and diagnostic issues relevant to risk and treatment. |

Christina Oliveira-Picado BScN, Reg N. currently works as a community nurse on the Forensic Transitional Outreach Team. She has worked in Forensic Service since 1993 initially in the assessment and rehabilitation unit and then in the outpatient team.

Anne MacPherson, Registered Nurse, MHScN, CPMHN(c) is a Nurse Clinician who has been with the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and the former Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital Forensic Service since 1995. She has spent the majority of her career in Mental Health, primarily working in community settings. She is a Clinical Lecturer with the McMaster University School of Nursing and holds a certificate in Mental Health / Psychiatric Nursing from the Canadian Nurses Association. |

Dr Woodbury-Smith is a physician in the autism spectrum disorder service at Hamilton Health Sciences and adult developmental psychiatric clinic at St Joseph’s Healthcare. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences (Associate Member Department of Pediatrics). After achieving his medical degree, Dr Woodbury-Smith trained in psychiatry in Southampton and Cambridge in the UK, and at Yale School of Medicine, USA. Whilst at Cambridge he also completed his PhD and developed an interest in phenotypic aspects of autism spectrum disorders. This interest has continued in his work at McMaster, where he is involved in geneotype-phenotype studies of ASDs in collaboration with Toronto’s Centre for Applied Genomics. He is currently principal investigator on two autism genetics grants as well as being involved as collaboratorin other projects. he is also on the Editorial Board of the journals Journal of Autism & Developmental Disorders and Advances in Psychiatric Treatment |
